According to recent studies (and pretty much every bridal forum in existence), roughly 50% of newlywed brides go through an intense depression after the ceremony is finally over.

It makes sense, really. You've just spent months and months of your life planning this day down to the finest minutia, answering phone calls and dictating emails and tasting cakes and pairing wine with dinner menu options and dieting and getting your gown tailored and wrangling your distracted bridesmaids and oh my god just typing all that out is exhausting!

After all of that time, effort, and energy, it only makes sense that once the day is done and you return to some semblance of normalcy, you would feel a sense of loss. For some it's the loss of drive or passion; for others, the loss of something to look forward to.

Don't worry! There's hope.

Here are 5 suggestions that will help you avoid the Post-Wedding Blues:

1. Focus on the Present:

There's so, so much to do! The 'big day' may be over but the rest of your life has just begun. So focus on sending out thank you notes, organizing your new home, and sorting through your wedding registry gifts. Yay!

2. Keep Your Partner in the Loop:

You're the only person who knows what you're thinking, so do your best to be open and honest about how you feel. Otherwise your depression could worsen, and your loved one will have no idea what's going on.

3. Have Fun!

Your wedding is over, sure, but think about the fun things you can plan! There's a major holiday once a month. Can you say Arbor Day celebration? If you want to be creative, put your energy towards home crafts, your hobbies, and whatever it is that makes you feel like you're thriving.

4. Volunteer:

You spent a whole year organizing and delegating tasks: why not put those skills to good use? Work at a blood drive, or a help hotline, or any other local charities. Good organizations are always looking for good workers. And you'll feel great after you've helped others. Yay!

5. Enjoy Your Marriage:

The wedding was only the beginning. Now the fun part starts! You have the rest of your lives to laugh yourselves stupid and get on each other's nerves and have discussions about budgets. Hell, the entire reason you had the wedding at all was to be with the person you love. So enjoy it!

Keep these simple tips in mind and you'll beat the blues in no time! And if you're still jonesing for a wedding to plan, maybe it's time to consider a career change?
